History of 11th Edgware Scout Group
11th Edgware Scout Group originally started in the 1930’s, based at Edgware United Synagogue. By 1958 the Group was so large, housing two cub packs and two scout troops, that a second group was started at Stanmore Synagogue.
In 2009 11th Edgware was re-establised a group of experience Beaver, Cub and Scout leaders.
In the 15 years since, the group has gone from strength to strength and is now one of the largest Scout groups in Barnet. We have 100 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts taking part in weekly group meetings.
95% of our young people will stay with us all the way through from Beavers until the end of Scouts, when many will graduate to a Barnet Explorers group.
Why join Beavers, Cubs or Scouts?
Young People
Within your first year, you could:
- work out solutions to problems that you currently don’t know how to solve
- learn how to think outside the box
- take a canoe out on a lake
- lead a team for several activities (no matter what your own skillset is)
- gain an interest that you might not even know exists
- learn how to cook
- make many more friends.
Parents
Why encourage your children to join Beavers, Cubs and Scouts?
- In all sections, young people learn practical, ‘common sense’ skills.
- Young people are given tasks and challenges to solve, which most people won’t attempt until they are much older.
- Learn strong leadership skills.
- Spend more time outdoors.
- Have loads of fun.
- All our activities are very practical – we don’t sit around talking theory!
Why join 11th Edgware?
Because we think we have a really great Scout group and ….
- we have Beaver, Cub and Scout Groups and all are open to both girls and boys
- we are a strictly Kosher group and at camp Shabbat is observed
- all Scout leaders are DBS checked, fully insured and go through Scout-specific training.
- Our leaders are amazing! (incidentally, we’re always looking for more helpers and leaders – click here to read more about volunteering opportunities. Feel free to contact us to find out more).
